Ather 450X 2025 Review: Hits and Misses

Launch Overview: Ather launched the 450 series for 2025, comprising three models: 450S, 450X, and 450F. The blog focuses on reaction over technical details due to minimal changes.

450S Updates: The 450S sees no technical upgrades except for a new “Stealth Blue” color. It retains specifications like 0-40 km/h in 3.9 seconds, a 90 km/h top speed, and a 122 km IDC range. Pricing starts at ₹1,29,000 (ex-showroom, Bangalore).

450X Battery Variants: The 450X comes with two battery options (2.9 kWh and 3.7 kWh) and introduces several software features like multi-mode traction control (Rain, Road, and Rally modes) and Magic Twist (a regen feature).

Improved Range: The 450X sees a slight range boost: the smaller battery variant now offers 126 km (IDC) and the larger one 161 km (IDC).

New Features: New low rolling resistance tires by MRF are introduced. Two new colors, Stealth Blue and Hyper Sand, are added.

Performance Critique: The scooters’ performance is criticized for lacking improvements, especially in acceleration (0-40 km/h still at 3.3 seconds) and top speed. Competitors like Ola and Hero outperform Ather in these metrics.

Design Stagnation: No significant design upgrades were made, leaving the scooters looking small and dated compared to competitors.

Pricing Concerns: The 450 series is considered expensive, especially with essential features locked behind additional “Pro Pack” costs, unlike competitors who offer them as standard.

Handling Feedback: While the 450 series has good handling, it’s not significantly ahead of competitors like Hero and Ola.
